Balloon Chucker

Paired high-fidelity and low-poly study of the young Balloon Chucker executing a measured overhand throw that arcs above a tall hedge, with her organized sash, pail, science book, and notebook nearby.

Early exploration — not representative of final direction.

developing current version v0.5

A slow balloon thrower who arcs heavy splash over cover but struggles at close range.

Archetype

A slow balloon thrower who arcs heavy splash over cover but struggles at close range.

Personality

The Balloon Chucker is a smart, careful nine-year-old who has read more about throwing than she has practiced it. She studies water pressure, fill volume, and projectile arcs in a backyard science book. She is slightly more certain of her expertise than her experience supports.

She prepares every balloon and keeps honest notes after a miss. Her calculation may be right while her hand releases a fraction early or late. She does not quit when that happens. She adjusts and throws again.

Motivation

Winning means proving that the hedge shot was not luck. She wants the team to trust the plan she worked out and to give her time to make the difficult throw. Every clean arc is evidence that study can beat a stronger arm.

How they fight

She throws water balloons in high arcs that clear hedges, shields, and other kids. A direct hit adds heavy soak, and nearby kids catch splash. She is best behind a line, attacking clustered targets or ground that straight streams cannot reach.

She moves at an ordinary pace but needs room and time to throw. Her aim varies, her attack has a wide interval, and a fast melee kid can stop her up close. She also carries a heavy pail and a sash of balloons, which make retreat harder even though the visible load is not an ammunition count.

Field data

  • Age: 9.
  • Height / build: approximately 1.30 m (4 ft 3 in); small build.
  • Weight: approximately 29 kg (64 lb).
  • Speed: 3.0 m/s dry in the current game.
  • Stamina / soak: the current game calls her in at 100% soak and slows soaked movement toward 0.75 m/s. She has no soak resistance.
  • Strengths: arcing fire, heavy direct soak, splash against groups.
  • Weaknesses: slow attack cycle, variable aim, close-range pressure.

From the studio

This revision uses casting sheet row 2 for identity, age, size, personality, and weaknesses, plus sim/constants.gd for implemented movement and soak behavior. The shoulder sash and pail remain the approved silhouette, not an ammo system. Earlier published revisions remain unchanged in the timeline.

Evolution timeline

  1. v0.1 — The ballistic throw was the project's first proven verb; no originating character had been established. retired
  2. v0.2 — The throw survived the deterministic fixed-point port, and the Chucker read as a ranged unit within a squad; the character still existed mainly as mechanics and a letter glyph. retired
  3. v0.3 — The mechanics-first Chucker becomes a specific originating girl with a heroic self-image, an ordinary scientific source, a countable silhouette, and an execution flaw. developing
  4. v0.4 — A slow balloon thrower who arcs heavy splash over cover but struggles at close range. developing
  5. v0.5 — A slow balloon thrower who arcs heavy splash over cover but struggles at close range. developing
